The Long Odds: sometimes the risky thing is a safe bet
Would you take a bet where the odds were 250:1?
Nor would most people, although a quick google revealed that the horse Equinoctial entered the record books back in November, 1990 when he became the highest priced winner in the history of UK horse racing at 250:1 so let’s hope there were a few lucky ones on that day!
The reason I ask is because I recently I was competing for something against 249 other people - I didn’t realise that going in so I went into it the same way I always do - knowing that I had a strong presentation, I was confident and outgoing and I just wanted to present myself in the best way.
I’ve always been the same, I’ve never been one for not putting effort in- if you’re going to do something you should do it with 100% of yourself.
At the time it was mentioned that there had been 250 horses in this particular race, although only ten had made it to the starting gates.
I didn’t hear anything for a few days and I was fine with that, I was happy with how I’d come across; everything I’d said and if it wasn’t me then that’s alright because honestly, you can’t be loved by everyone.
I heard at the start of this week, I had been chosen- me out of the 250 (maybe you can be loved by everyone 😂) and I was over the moon, for the achievement and for the recognition.
I wondered if I’d known, upfront, what those odds were would I have done anything differently? And do you know what, I don’t think I would - whether I’m in a one horse race or a 250 horse race I’m going to put the same in... so that hopefully I always get that rosette or cup or that wreath thing that jockeys get!
