Public Service Announcement… Lesson 6 of 10 for 10 Years
This one is a lesson of observation and it’s something that I want to make sure every single person hears. Think of it as a public service announcement…
You don’t have a confidence problem when it comes to reels.
You have a cringe problem.
Even massive actors like Emma Stone and Reese Witherspoon don’t watch their own films
One of them citing that no one wants to watch themselves for that long and the other that she doesn’t need to get into the spiral of self-hate.
So, it’s not a surprise we, ordinary people, don’t like seeing ourselves on reels.
The trouble is that these days we’re all incredibly aware that reels and video content are a key part of marketing ourselves online – ensuring that we’re seen; that people get what we do; and that we stand out from the crowd.
So, whilst you know that you need to generate video content and you need to get your unique message out there it’s sometimes difficult to get over the huge mental block of seeing yourself on camera.
I’ve got a few hints to help with the cringe to make sure that you can get over the urgh moment and into posting videos regularly.
🤳Don’t Watch. Just put it out and wait for the engagement, nothing says you have to watch it.
🤳Mute. Try without the noise. If I need to review the set-up of my reel I do it without the sound on.
🤳Exposure. The more you watch the less you’ll care, bit like those bug boxes in I’m a Celeb.
🤳Listen. As people comment and interact listen to their feedback, believe the compliments.
🤳Relax. The more you try to be someone else the more you’ll cringe, so don’t. Focus on being you.
Let your confidence outshine your cringe and you’ll soon be making reels that everyone can enjoy… including your bottom line!
